Anniversary Weekend at Mohegan Sun Casino, Poconos

David was supposed to head to Harrisburg in the RV to meet old friends for a bike trip on our anniversary weekend (Sept 15). I had a few obligations so I was cool with it. Last minute, his plans & my plans cancelled so we hopped in the RV- with Keiki & Paulie this time -  and headed to the Poconos. We didn’t make reservations anywhere but we found out we could park in the Casino lot for free. We had such a great time. It was out second trip with the cats. Keiki is doing great but Paulie stays under the seat while we’re in motion. Once we stop moving, he’s back to his old self again. Dave & I had some great meals – Thanks Ruth’s Chris! It turned out to be a wonderful weekend.

Cape May

The weekend of August 12 we went to visit our friends Terry & Anne in Cape May. We parked in their driveway but had our first RV mishap. We opened the gate to the driveway to back in. After a few minutes getting settled in, we realized that the outlet we needed to plug into was closer to the street. I got out of the car to assist in directing David and he started to drive forward. Next thing I know, he gets up to pull the antenna down thinking he’s so smart for remembering. Slight problem… he’s still in drive. My first instinct was to run in front of the RV to try to stop it but fortunately I thought that through and decided against it. Long story short, RV looks fine, gate needs replacing. Luckily our friends really love us! (Dave left some cash on the table as we left; hopefully, it covers it. Woops!).

Dewey / Rehobeth

Our next trip to the beach was terrific. We visited with my in-laws and even took the RV to Broadkill Beach where we were able to park right at the beach entrance and bring my mother-in law’s dog Duncan.

We met up with friends Richard & Susan from Haymarket, VA and watched the sunset off Tower Road.

Next we headed to Bottle & Cork (July 29,2016) where I also ran into my friend Christie who I worked with back in the day. We danced all night to the Legwarmers 80’s cover band – totally RAD!!!
My nephew's son LUKE loved "driving."

4th of July Weekend in Maine

We decided to take a long weekend for the holiday and head back up to Maine to visit our friends. We left the cats home with a friend and started our journey July 1st.
On the way to Portland, we stopped in Wells for our first Maine lobster roll at Mike’s Clam Shack & Fish Market. Totally YUMMY!
Soon after lunch we hit Kennebunkport where we pulled off to take in the scenery.
Next we hit Portland where we spent time with our friends Paula & Sandy – parked in the driveway of their new home a couple of nights. We went to Scales for dinner where David got his second lobster roll. What can I say? Philly can’t make a Maine roll like Maine can. We went to the park where Paula & Sandy were married. It was a fantastic visit!

From there, we headed further north to see Matt & Karen. They recently bought a home on 4.5 acres of waterfront property. Words can’t begin to describe how perfect the location was. We had such a fantastic time. Talk about a perfect place for Cornhole!
Here's Karen with my husband, her baby bump and her pet chickens!
We all took a boat to Monhegan Island… talk about stunning views! (And we rocked our new hats!!)

Poconos – Lessons Learned…

Last weekend we decided to head to the Poconos when we heard that our friends Mark & Nicole were going to be staying in Camelback. I did my research online and found an RV Park nearby. It had two pools, an arcade, live music, hayrides, basketball, tennis, shuffleboard, pool tables, café, store, you name it. I was anticipating a resort for RVs.

Not quite.

Although the Park had all of those amenities, it was primarily an old trailer park. The campsites were close together and most of the trailers were obviously there all year long. Chris and I took a walk to the pool while Dave biked around the park. I couldn’t make it in past my knees and I told Chris not to bother with the ice bucket challenge this year. Brrrrr! (Even the band wasn’t what I’d expected. They were seniors doing classic country ballads – talented, just not what I expected.)

We had a great time but next trip I’ll do better research.
We relaxed playing Scrabble & Cornhole. Finally we felt like we were getting close to nature when the sun went down and the stars came out. You just can’t see stars like that near Philly.

That being said, it was family run and they went out of their way to be as helpful as possible. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and we had a blast. We lit our fire pit, used the bathroom in the RV for the first time, and made s’mores. Over the weekend we didn’t leave the site. We feasted on lamb chops, burgers, dogs, cold cuts & salads. As we had dinner, the hayride went around the campsite multiple times.

Nicole & Mark stopped buy for dinner after a trip to Urgent Care. Nicole almost drowned in a rafting accident when her clothes got caught on a rock. In the end she walked away with a deep ugly gash & stitches down her back.

And just a side note...

On the ride to the Poconos we had to pull over before the toll... I couldn't find our ticket. After a half hour searching, we found it in the holder on the door where I put it but flush up against it hiding from view. Then Dave mistakenly went through the EZ Pass lane & we had to pull over again.

When driving home, we were ready to pay when the computer/register in our toll booth went down. They wouldn't even take our exact change & let us through. Of course we were the only line this was happening at but due to cars behind us, we had to wait it out.

We keep meaning to get an EZ Pass. Mental note to order one today!

Pop-Up Party

On Memorial Day we were invited to dinner at our good friends DeeDee & Randy’s home in Wayne, PA. Although not far from our house, we decided to bring the RV. They always throw amazing parties in that neighborhood. As you can see, their driveway was a pretty great place to park!

The following weekend Dave & our buddy Chris & I took a day trip to Princeton, NJ. This was my first time riding in the back. It took some getting used to. I realized quickly that I was more comfortable with a seatbelt on. We met up with our friends Paula & Mike. Grilled up some lunch & kayaked. (Well, they kayaked. I relaxed.)

And Now to Test the Waters – Kitties in Motion!

For Mother’s Day we decided to visit Dave’s family in Harrisburg. We decided to stay overnight in my sister-in-law’s driveway. This time we brought the cats. As you can see, Keiki’s loving it but Paulie’s still panting away. Once we finally stopped and got situated, Paulie relaxed and acted more like himself. Phew!
